We are down to our last few days of school and a well deserved break for all of us. While restrictions have loosen a bit this year, we're still not back to normal, and I'm looking forward to a fresh start in January. In the meantime, here are a few updates:
We have been learning about financial literacy in math, and today we started a new project. Students were given a budget of $35 to buy decorations for a Christmas tree. We will continue to work on this project until Friday. Look for it in backpacks. On Friday we decorate ice cream cone Christmas trees. Thank you for sending candy to school this week. If you haven't, please be sure to send it. We have two days left to bring donations for our sister school, Lamay Primary, in Tanzania. Normally, we accept donations at the concert but this year we are collecting on our classrooms. I hope everyone has a restful, happy holiday!

As you know, the Provincial Health Officer has mandated masks for all children K-12 while at school. Our whole class arrived this morning wearing their masks - thank you! Some children brought a spare mask as well. If your child doesn't have a back-up, we're asking that they have an extra in a zip lock bag which can be kept in their desks in case the mask they arrive in gets dirty or wet.
Remember that students are dismissed at 1:35 Wednesday and Thursday for parent teacher conferences. We will be eating lunch at our regular time (11:36-11:56.) We are required to use Zoom to conduct interviews, but the district did not renew our license this year. This means that I am limited to 40 minute sessions, or 3-4 interviews before loosing my connection. At the end of the 40 minutes, I will have to log out and log back in. If parents are in the waiting room, you will be "kicked out" and have to log back in again also. Today, students are bringing home a letter with a zip lock bag for the comfort kit, and the Emergency Release Form. Please complete and return to school as soon as possible. Thank you and see you on Zoom! Welcome Division 7 families! I hope your children are happy, excited about school, and settling into our class. Last week you received a package of forms with all kinds of important information for the school. Please review, complete or change, sign and return them to the school as soon as possible. You also received a newsletter (on green paper) with some classroom information. This is a reference for you to keep throughout the year.
Here are some important days to know in our schedule:
Home reading bags will come home with your child this week. I know we all have busy work and families lives, but please, find 20 minutes everyday for home reading. Reading is the single best indicator of academic success for children. Reading is the key that will open doors for your child. I have assigned the children books based on their PM Benchmark levels from June. Since things change over the summer, some of these books may be too hard or too easy. Please make a note on the home reading form. The book bag should be sent back to school when your child has read the book at least twice and you have initialed the form. As always, if you need to get in touch with me, you can send a note in the agenda or email me at [email protected]. I look forward to seeing all of you via Zoom this Wednesday at 5:50! |
